Our production capabilities include Continuous Casting, Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), Vacuum Arc Re-melting (VAR) and Electro Slag Re-melt (ESR).
During 2011 and 2012 we undertook a modernisation program, replacing all of our powder production furnaces and auxiliary services with completely new equipment.
Raw materials are supplied by Norilsk in pure charge form and all of our alloys are produced in our own metallurgy mill, where we mix the elemental constituents to our customers’ specifications.
Our state of the art furnaces ensure a homogeneous melt resulting in alloys with optimal composition
and mechanical properties.
Our facilities
Alloy production
We specialise in the manufacture of cobalt chrome and nickel based alloys to meet the demanding requirements of the medical sectors and the oil and gas and aerospace industries.
All of our alloys have been engineered with high-performance in mind. Their key mechanical characteristics of yield strength, hardness, ductility and corrosion resistance are due to:
-
Our use of pure charge ingredients supplied direct from the mine in a very fine powder form (we do not use recycled or revert material),
-
Advanced furnaces that ensure a homogeneous melt,
-
Refined grain size (7 microns compared with a norm of 30 microns). [Learn More]
Independent tests have confirmed their performance capabilities and ISO compliance:
-
Cytotoxocity trials conducted by Geneva Labs USA
-
Composition tested and confirmed by Intertek at Rolls Royce
We hold current ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certification, are fully compliant with the Medical Devices Directive and hold CE marks for our alloys.

Our alloy products
Our finished alloys are supplied in various forms:
-
Large ingots produced by VIM/ESR for casting or forging/rolling,
-
Small ingots produced by continuous casting (laser marking optional),
-
Rods,
-
Billets/Disks for milling/machining,
-
Powder for laser sintering, surfacing or isostatic pressing.
We will also polish the ingots and rods if required. We prepare the ingots
according to customer specification, usually in diameters ranging
from 08mm to 200mm. Our orthopaedic customers normally require ingots
according to ISO 5832-4. We can also manufacture wrought material (typically ISO 5832-12) by subcontracting ingot forging to our partners in Sheffield, UK.
Rods are available in diameters of 03mm to 12mm and lengths of 500mm. They are manufactured by a method of continuous casting resulting in virtually no unwanted impurities. They have excellent surface quality which requires no extra grinding or processing. The composition and quality undergoes highly technical monitoring by experienced and highly skilled professionals.
Billets for milling or machining are open system CAD/CAM 98.5mm disks with optimum machining properties, thermally enhanced for very high strength. Blanks are supplied with or without steps and in depths ranging from 8mm to 22 mm in 2 mm increments.
Our alloy powders are manufactured in an inert gas
atmosphere to ensure purity. Their composition and particle
size are tailored to our customers’ specific requirements.
Finished production orders are appropriately laser marked
with product code and batch number before being securely
packaged for shipping.
