He has always had a profound interest in biomaterials and biocompatibility since the start of his career. He has successfully completed hundreds of successful patients of dental implants.

Malcolm is a Visiting Academic and Professor at Imperial College, London and the University of Idaho. Dr Ward-Close is an expert in metals and alloys and the development & application of powder metallurgy technologies. His work has been mainly concerned with the design of effective manufacturing technology for structures and components.
Malcolm joined the Materials Department of the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE, now QinetiQ), Farnborough, UK in 1977, becoming Head of Titanium Alloys.
During the period 1995-2010 he was a Visiting Professor in the Materials Department, Imperial College and on leaving QinetiQ (the successor to the RAE) he continued his association with Imperial College, being appointed Visiting Academic and now works as an industry consultant based in the Materials Department. Throughout his career Dr Ward-Close has specialised in manufacturing technology for advanced materials and in particular, powder metallurgy and ceramic reinforced composite materials.
Malcolm has published over 160 external papers on advanced materials processing and holds over 20 placements. From 1992-2010 Dr Ward-Close was Head of the Titanium Group and then Technology Chief for Titanium Alloys at QinetiQ Ltd., Farnborough, UK, with responsibility for up to 20 staff.
